The beginning sentence of today's First Reading from the prophet Amos and the last sentence of today's Gospel from Luke would at first reading seem Un-American!

"Hear this you who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land...Never will I forget a thing you have done

Amos 8:4 and 7

"You cannot serve both God and money." LK 16:13

YES....BUT DON'T THESE WORDS BETRAY "THE AMERICAN DREAM?

Twenty Fourth Sunday In Ordinary Time, Sept. 15. 2013

Today, Jesus gives us the marvelous parable of the Prodigal Son. This story is pictured in Rembrandt's painting in the Herimitage in Saint Petersburg Russia. No one has seen God, So Jesus, well before Rembrandt, paints a vivid picture story to show the greatness of God's Love for the Prodigal Son who has screwed up his life and squandered his inheritance on prostitutes and irresponsible behaviour. And yet the Father forgives and embraces him in love.

That is the way we learn, through pictures and stories. So I am writing a book which may end up being titled:

"THE MAD CRAZY LOVE OF DOGS AND GOD!"
