The Apostles said to the Lord: "Increase our faith."

Blue Bloods, in my opinion is the most literate and family friendly show on TV.

It is family friendly because the family sits aroung the table, always prays, and then enteres into intelligent inter generationl conversation.

All this in addition to an action filled story line.

For example: a conversation between Danny the detective and his sister, the Assistant Dictrict Attorney:

Danny is fed up with the sordid crimes he must witness every day and confides in his sister:

"I do not know wheteher I have any Faith left anymore. I go to mass, but maybe I am just going through the motions."

She: "Oh Danny, it is still there, but it is just deeper than the surface."

Where else on TV is there ever a discussion about Faith?

I highly recommend Blue Bloods on Friday night.

But maybe Danny's sister has the answer: "Go deeper!"

Faith deals with the ultimate direction of our lives, and what is on the surface does not count so much as what lies deeply within us.

Faith equals trust.

So which way does our deepest inner compass tilt?

Toward cynicism, lack of hope, or even despair?

OR:

Toward encouragement, hope, and trust?

At present we live in a climate of negativity, and sour thinking.

Prophets of gloom rise up among us,

and so we need to pray:

Lord increase our faith!

"Guard this rich trust

with the help of the Holy Spirit

that dwells deep within us."

Amen
