THIS WEEK - TWO MOUNTAINS:
The Mount of Transfiguration and on the 17th, Crough Patrick in Ireland
where St. Patrick fasted and prayed during Lent over 1500 years ago.

In today's Gospel, Jesus is transfigured and shines forth in all His glory.
His disciples must hang on to this memory,
for soon they shall witness His passion and death on another mountain, Calvary.

On March 17, another mountain.
In 1973, I climbed it with Larry Dorsey and 50,000 other pilgrims -
a life changing experience.

The lesson then and now - keep climbing!
It was the beginning of my writing which now has come to 16 books,
the most recent being A CONTEMPORARY WAY OF THE CROSS.
For when I returned from climbing Patrick's Mountain,
I was so moved, I wrote about it - my first published work.
But that would never have happened if I had quit climbing,
as I was so tempted to do.

And so we pray:
Help us to keep climbing.
Through the dark,
Up the rough terrain.
For hope is our guide,
And amazing grace our
Energy and resolve.
Amen.
