"Praise the Lord, for he has rescued the lives of the poor from the power of the wicked."

First Reading from Jeremiah 20:13

Jeremiah and all of the Prophets always spoke up for the poorest of the poor, "for the poor you always have with you!:"

For in every age, the poor are virtually defenceless.

So too in ours: Especially the children of the poor who are born into poverty through no fault of their own.

This week the U.S. Senate wil vote on their Health Care bill.

This bill shifts funds from the poor to the richest of the rich, and should be spurned by today's prophets.

"The Afordable Care Act which is to be replaced, gave health insurance to millions of Americans by shifting resources from the wealthiest to the poorest. It raised taxes on the wealthiest highest earners and the health care industry to provide health insurance subsidies

to the uninsured who could not afford health insurance.

The new Senate bill to be voted on this week wil eliminate those taxes on the wealthiest in our society and reduce federal funding for the care of low income Americans.

Who wlll be hardest hit by this bill which even President Trump called "mean" in its origins from the House of Representatives?

The elderly for one group. No wonder AARP is actively condemning the Senate Bill.

Also single parent white women wh constitute the largest segment among the poor.

The Senate bill also changes the structure of Medicaid which presently provides health insurace to seventy four million disabled including nearly 40% of chidren.

What has all this got to do with religion?

Everything!

"For what you do the least of my brethren, you do to me!"

 And so we pray:

Awaken us from complacent sumber.

Rouse us to contact our lawmakers.

Convert them and us from:

meanness

to concern

for the least of or brothers and sisters,

for among them

we must find

your presence.

Amen.
