FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD, AUGUST 6, 2017

My parents, Bill and Kitty, married in 1925.
After several miscarriages, with help of new Doctor Dwyer,
7 years later I was born on August 7, 1932.

My sister, Mary Rose, was born next year but did not survive infancy.
I praise God for my parents and the gift of life!
This gift was given in the midst of the Great Depression.

On the mountain top the beloved disciples experienced
the radiant, inner beauty of the Christ.
It shone forth in a burst of light.

Through our baptism, we too can share in that inner beauty.
After all we are "christened" at baptism.
Thereafter we strive to resemble Christ in our actions and in our words.

Of course, we too often fall short.
But the Christ light remains within us, unless by deliberate word or serious deeds, we extinguish it.
But even then, by turning back to Christ, because of God's mercy it can be reignited.
So I also give thanks for my baptism 85 years ago in St. Catherine Hospital in Omaha.

And so we pray:
Thanks be to God
For the Christ light
Given to us at our baptism.
"This little light of mine,
Let it shine!
Let it shine!
Let it shine!
Amen
