Did Jesus dance at Cana?

Yes surely he did.

The cranes do an elaborate mating ritual dance as do many other creatures. They are celebrating their sexuality and the wonderful discovery of a partner. Nature cannot sit still for joy, and neither can we nor Jesus.

And at Mary's bidding, he performs his first miracle. And it was not "Two Buck Chuck Wine!"

No it was the best vintage of wines.

Mary's request and his response, despite the fact "that his time had not come." is perhaps the exemplar of our Catholic devotion to Mary's intercession.

Today Isaiah gives us an image of another nuptial so needed in our time.

He infers that we as hunans are wedded to the land upon which we walk:

"No longer shall people call you "Forsaken,"

Your land "Desolate,"

but you will be called, "My Delight,"

AND YOUR LAND ESPOUSED."

Isaiah grounds us.

We are not angels.

We are grounded "humus"... of the earth, earthy.

And on Ash Wednesday when ashes are put on our brows, it is holy dirt.

So as we fill the oceans with eternal plastic, and deplete the rainforests we are bringing onto our chidren

a curse.

WE MAKE THEIR EARTH "DESOLATE AND FORSAKEN."

We are divorcing ourselves from the very womb of life.

BUT THERE IS AN AWAKENING.

Even though our President and much of Congress are in ignorant denial of Climate change, States and Cities and other nations are taking actions to benefit the climate.

It cannot happen too soon.

and so we pray:

O God deliver us from being called"

"forsaken"

or "desolate."

Rather may our Earth be Your Delight."

O God from whom all blessings flow,

bless our earth here below.

Amen
