"Comfort, give comfort to my people says The Lord."  IS 40:1

This Advent blessing of Isaiah is needed in every age and time.

"Dec. 7, a day that will live in infamy." FDR

AND SINCE THEN, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MORE: ISIS in our own time.

And so Advent is to be a comforting time in the midst of infamy.
The Scriptures are filled with hope for a hope starved world.

And now we have the latest Grand Jury failure to indict a strangling victim
which seems to me to be a more clear cut case than Ferguson.

So an opportune time to plug my favorite TV DRAMA:
"BLUE BLOODS"
starring Tom Selleck and a superb cast.

It is so far superior to any other police dramas for the following reasons:

1. Over an hour the violence is minimum, sometimes graphic but not over done because several stories are being told.
2. It is not filled with grisly morgue scenes of carved up bodies.
3. The drama is played out in a realistic way.
4. You get both the cops'side and the protestors.
5.  The actors are splendid.
6. It is not JUST a cop's drama. It is the stories of a New York Irish Catholic family with 5 members connected to the criminal justice system.
7. It always ends with the family gathered at the family dinner table and they often discuss ethical issues: unique for TV.
8. It is inter-generational, with input from all ages.

Enough reasons to watch?  I think so.

In the show you share the family's hopes and dreams.

And that itself could be an Advent adventure.

"Comfort, give comfort to my people says The Lord."

A drama that allows you to see how this family
gives comfort to each other is a worthwhile adventure.

Beyond TV, LOOK AROUND YOU AND SEE WHO NEEDS
COMFORTING IN YOUR REAL LIFE, and offer them some.

Prayer: O Lord, in these days of discomfort,
Help me to bring comfort and hope,
To hope starved folks who are all around me.
Amen
