Lenten Reflections from a House of Pain and Healing

Home at last!
Some memories from the Rehab Center:

G. Who is in almost constant pain with no relief in sight. A retired Presbyterian pastor whose community covered him with a "prayer quilt" under which he had his first night being pain free.

 

Another G who is 94. First marriage spouse died of Huntington disease, who had to advise his two children not to have children and pass it on . . . they too would die early of the disease.

D. Who stepped on a pebble, fell and shattered her hip.

L. Who had BOTH knees replaced and who has limited time left due to heart failure.

All of these had their Lenten sacrifices assigned
and bore their crosses with courage and endurance.

Praise God!

Today's Readings

O dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord! - Ezk.

Today' physical therapists fulfill these biblical words in our time.

For all of them I am so grateful! They bring new life to "dry bones."

In today's Gospel, Jesus cries out: "Lazarus . . . come forth!"

And Lazarus breaks the ties that bind him and he strides out of the tomb!

Lent is all about breaking the ties that bind us as well.

And so we pray:

The sick, the maimed, the bedraggled come forth!

Praise God!

The beleaguered, the captives, the forgotten come forth!

Praise God!

This is the season of breakthroughs!

Praise God!

O God let me too . . .

Break the ties that bind me!
