Mision!

Today, Jesus makes a dramatic entrance into the local synagogue.
There he takes down one scroll from many. It is a reading from Isaiah
and he boldly proclaim’s it’s message.

It’s message contains his mission statement.
Even today businesses and our current culture often have a mission statement.
A mission statement tells us what the particular entity is all about.
So does the mission statement of Jesus:

He proclaims GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR,
release of captives,
and a year of favor from the Lord.

Thus he identifies with the outcasts, with the marginalized,
with the unemployed, with the refugees.

He takes his stand with them.
There is no doubt who he stands with.

Is his “mission accomplished?”
Hardly.
It remains our mission who claim the name of Christian.

He also proclaims “Release Of captives.”
This includes all who are unjustly imprisoned
as well as those who are enslaved by drugs or alcohol.

Those who work for sobriety do the work of Jesus.

And so we pray:

We too are sent.
We too have a mission.

800,000 government workers
Must be paid. We demand it.

Drug offenders must be treated, not imprisoned.

Refugees must be welcomed, not walled out.

It must be so to accomplish the
Mission of Jesus.
God help us!
Amen
