Service

I recently saw the movie Downton Abbey which really at its core is about service which is also the theme of today's gospel.

In the movie the regular servants collude against the high and mighty servants of the royal household.

Jesus also does not want servants of the Gospel to be "high and mighty."

They should not expect extra rewards for doing the basic thing required: which is to to rernder service.

The Gospel commands us to love one another which really demands we meet the needs of others

And who among us is not needy in some way.

So the bottom line is through service, we express genuiine love.

A service we all know is to be served a meal.

It is an essential and basic service.

Because of  a proposed Trump administration proposal

an estimated 3.6 million Americans would be cut off from food stamps, many of them children..

And so we pray:

"Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass

against us..."

Amen.
