“Blessed are you who are poor for the Kingdom of God is yours.”

There is a poverty that often afflicts the elderly. It is Alzheimer’s. It is a poverty that bankrupts the mind no matter how rich it may have been filled with its own thinking.

My cousin Mary Lou, Age 97 has been impoverished by this illness in assisted living for seven years.

Last week was her 71st wedding anniversary. On that day her daughter and my God Daughter Louanne who has been her faithful visitor and caretaker, visited the family plot at Holy Rood Cemetery in Seattle and prayed for her mother. She prayed:

to her deceased father, and her Grandmother: “On this 71st Wedding Anniversary, Dad and Grandmother please come and welcome Mom to be with you again. That very day, Mary Lou passed away.

May she Rest In Peace.
