Sept. 28, 2014, 26th Sunday In Ordinary Time
Have in you the same attitude that is in Jesus Christ in
Saint Paul to the Phillipians, today’s second Reading.
Saturday was the Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul. This French priest saw misery all around and determined to be with the people in the midst of the poorest of the poor. His inspiration lives on in the Saint Vincent de Paul Societies which are organized in every parish. They go about their work quietly, without fanfare, offering emergency help to those in need irregardless of race, religion, or nationality.
The represent YOU. They are your hands open to real needs. So much of what every parish does is self promotion. Our schools, our clubs benefit us or our children. If it not for Saint Vincent de Paul, our parishes would seem to be very self centered.
They actually give us legitimacy in order to preach the Gospel, forthey DO what the Gospel demands.
In the Second Reading today, Paul tells us “Christ emptied himself..”
He continues to do so in the outstretched hands of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
