21st Sunday in Ordiinary Time

RIP NANCY BIDWILL wife of owner of AZ Cardinals...I took her Communion and she had more courage than any player on their team. 

In today's 2nd Reading Paul writes of discipline, which we surely observed in this week's Olympics especially from the gymnasts.

This is needed in our spiritual lives as well.

The Gospel: seems topsy turvy!

"The last shall be first!"

"And strive to enter through the narrow gate!"

What is this all about?

Jesus seems to abhor compliancy. We are to be alert and seek the narrow path that leads to mercy.

Pope Francis reminds us that the gate or door that Jesus offers us for salvation "is never closed."

So on the one hand we are not to be smug about our salvation,
the more we realize we are sinners, then
we realize we need the narrow gate and the more easily we pass through it.

And so we pray:

Show us the way to salvation.
The path is sometimes darkened.
Shed light so we may make our way
Through the narrow gate of mercy.
Amen
