Fourth Sunday of Lent...March 26
'Rejoice Jerusalem and all you who were in mourning" - Introit

Today's long Gospel has the Pharisees attempting to play mind games with Jesus
over his curing the sight of a man born blind.
In our own time, the age of fake news and propaganda, and alternate facts,
there is the intent on the part of some to blind us from what is real.
In Nazi Germany Gobbels, Hitler's propaganda chief,
was in genius at blindfolding an entire people . . . which only shows it can be done.

In a democracy a A FREE PRESS IS NOT OUR ENEMY.

Rather, it is essential lest we lull ourselves to sleep
by taking the sleeping pills offered by would be dictators.

On this Rejoice Sunday, Saint Paul reminds us to seek the light rather than slumber in the dark:

"Brothers and sisters you were once in the dark,
but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light . . ."

And so we pray:
O Lord,
Deliver us from the wiles of Satan,
Who is the Prince of Darkness,
And the Father of Lies.
Help us to walk through the dark
Of Good Friday,
Into the Easter light.
Amen
