I have fled the heat of Arizona and I am staying with my cousin, Rosemary, in Minnesota.
This is Rosemary's front yard.
I am here surrounded by beauty and reveling in the fresh air.
Today in the Scriptures Jesus is close to the earth with his parables of The Sower.
And St. Paul is too, when he writes about all creation "groaning trying to give birth" to something new.
But in our day, creation may be groaning with death pangs as "Know Nothing's" deny global warming.
Our withdrawal from the Paris Accords is a Retreat from reality into willful ignorance and imperils future children's lives.
That is why former mayor of NY City, Michael Bloomberg, and Governor Jerry Brown of California are teaming up to lead other cities and states to abide by the Paris accords.
They join Pope Francis, Stephen Hawking and a majority of reputable scientists who are recognizing global warming as a threat to all earth life.
Hawking even proclaims "we are at a tipping point."
This green Ordinary Time is really not "Ordinary."
It is extraordinary.
And so I wrote in the North American Prayer Book:
. . . what I do for the earth,
I do for all the children.
Let the earth be for them,
Not desert, but precious gem.
Bless these children.
Bless their future life.
Bless the earth, the womb of life.
Amen
