Where is Christ the King to be found?

One place for sure!

Here in the Phoenix area, he is to be found in the warehouse disrict amid the slums of South Phoenix at 7th and Watkins.

Everyday. 365 days a year the homeless, the undocumented, the evicted, the downtrodden line up to be fed by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

In my opinion we could scarcely claim the title of "Christian" if we did not have elements like the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Catholic Relief, Bread for the World reaching out the hands of Christ to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of the poor.

Jesus makes it very clear in Matthew 25, today's Gospel:

"WHAT YOU DO FOR THE LEAST OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS YOU DO FOR ME!"

We live in a special moment of time like no other.

The poor are despised and looked down upon.

We will build walls to keep them out because they don't look like us.

We will establish tax policies which will pile up additional wealth for the two percent of the richest of the rich.

And the poor? We are told that the coffers of the affluant  will then overflow with abundance, and thus "trickle down" to the middle class with scraps for the poor.

Today's Gospel is about final judgment!

The Christ of today's Gospel is no namby pamy.

No, he is the passionate Christ who rendered judgment on the money traders in the temple by throwing over their tables and driving them out!

This is the dynamic Christ the King who will come in glory to judge the living and the dead:

"Amen, Amen, I say to you, what you did not do to one of these least ones, you did not do to me.

And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life!"

and so we pray:

Glory be to Christ the King,

judge of the living and the dead.

You have promised us through the Prophet Ezekiel:

"The lost I wii seek out.

The strayed I will bring back.

The injured I will heal.

the sleek and the strong I will destroy."

Amen
