The Sea of Galilee

Make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and most of the actual sites where Jesus walked are buried beneath the detrius of past centuries. Not so with the Sea of Galilee. There waves wash against the shore just as they did in the time of Jesus. And there fishermen still cast their nets into the Sea, as they have from time inmemorial.

Today just as Peter said, fishermen say, "I am going fishing!"

But in Peter's time it was the Risen Lord hilself who appeared on the shore and summoned them to a picnic there. And Peter who so recently ran away from the cross, this time leaps into the water and half swims and then wades toward Jesus, not away.

And so we pray:

O Jesus,

may we enlivened by the Spirit,

never hesitate to leap into the deep waters of faith.

And may we emerge with renewed Easter joy,

emboldened to share the good news of our salvation.
