Baptism of Jesus

"We believe that in the water the person being engulfed by water has been reborn as a descendant of Jesus, a survivor of death, a lover of life. To live as such is to say "yes" to this identity in the years ahead is the baptismal challenge."

But to live out our baptisms does not come about without scrapes and bruises.

How consoling then the words of of Isaiah in the first Reading:

"A bruised reed he shall not break.

and a smoulding wick, he shall not quench..."

And so we pray:

In baptism,

I have passed through

death

on the way to new life.

In this new decade

may I be vivified.

and open to new growth.
